Sapphire Eye 500 Replaces Micro Eye | Press

Products reach the end of their Product Life Cycle for several reasons. These reasons may be due to market demands, technology innovation and development driving changes in the product. Moreover, products simply mature over time and are replaced by functionally richer technology.

EOL Justification

Due to limitations of the Raspberry Pi platform, the Micro Eye is being replaced by the Sapphire Eye 500. The limitations identified do not conform to 7SIGNAL’s current specification for hardware sensors.

• The platform’s CPU cannot achieve throughputs above 25Mbps, making it less useful in environments with SLAs exceeding this value.
• The platform does not support spectrum analysis
• The platform does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE)
• The platform’s radio is 2x2 and therefore, does not adequately represent the newest client devices

Your Upgrade Path

Micro Eye customers may purchase Sapphire Eye 500’s to replace their MicroEyes at a special retrofit discounted rate of $149 each when they renew their annual software maintenance. The Sapphire Eye 500 includes support for 802.11ac wave 1, a 3x3:3 radio, more powerful CPU and represents a significant increase in capabilities over the Micro Eye, including spectrum analysis and PoE.
