When 5G Radio Goes Silent

How 7SIGNAL uncovered buggy code and averted potentially life-threatening problems at a hospital

When patient safety is on the line, a spotty Wi-Fi connection can literally be a matter of life or death.

So, when a 7SIGNAL audit uncovered a previously-undetected bug in Cisco Aironet 3500 and 3700 Series access points at a major California hospital, hospital administrators knew a serious problem had been narrowly averted. The buggy code drastically reduced connectivity by causing 5G radio located outside an operating room to go silent.

But if the access point isn’t beaconing – and the mobile station can’t achieve the proper state – data transfers can’t occur. The mobile station might connect with another access point located farther away, but the distance is likely to cause a poor connection.
